How the Alphabet Calculator Works
🔤 Letter-to-Number System
Each letter represents its position in the alphabet:
- A = 1, B = 2, C = 3, ... Z = 26
- For multi-letter combinations, we use base-26 numbering (like Excel columns)
- AA = 27, AB = 28, BA = 53, etc.
Examples:
• HELLO = H(8) × 26⁴ + E(5) × 26³ + L(12) × 26² + L(12) × 26¹ + O(15)
• BANU = B(2) × 26³ + A(1) × 26² + N(14) × 26¹ + U(21) = 36,213
🧮 Operations
- Addition: A + B = C (1 + 2 = 3)
- Subtraction: Always keeps results positive (minimum is A = 1)
- Multiplication: Standard multiplication
- Division: Returns exact decimal results, not rounded integers
🔢 Decimal Display
When division creates decimals, they're shown in base-26:
- Integer part: Normal base-26 (A, B, C...)
- Decimal part: After the dot (A.BCDEF...)
- A.AAAAAABB... means approximately 0.00563973
- Three dots (...) indicate the result was rounded to 8 decimal places
Example: BANU ÷ NANDA = A.AAAAAABB...
(36,213 ÷ 6,424,809 ≈ 0.00563973...)
